王东海,男,1965年生,研究员。1987年毕业于中山大学大气科学系,1990年和1993年在中科院大气物理研究所分别获得硕士学位和博士学位。从1987年开始即从事短时风暴数值预报模式的研究和开发工作。1993年博士毕业后留中科院大气物理研究所工作。1995-2000年在美国俄克拉荷马大学风暴分析预报中心(CAPS)工作,是ARPS(Advanced Regional Prediction System)模式系统(包括分析同化子系统)的主要开发者和改进者之一,该模式系统可以用于多尺度数值天气预报的业务应用和理论研究,并因此荣获2001年度俄克拉荷马大学创新奖。2000-2005年在美国NASA工作,相继担任NASA CRYSTAL-FACE科学组首席研究员(PI),主持高分辨率云系统模拟和资料分析同化,并于2003年获NASA团体成就奖。同时作为CO-PI或CO-I在美国参加多个中尺度的观测分析和数值研究项目或课题。2005年底,作为中国气象局特别引进人才,担任灾害天气国家重点实验室常务副主任至今。
现主持国家自然科学基金重点项目"东北暴雨研究"、主持科技部/财政部科研专项"东亚区域模式物理过程研究"、主持国家自然科学基金面上项目"华南典型暴雨中尺度对流系统研究"、以及参加国家973项目"南方致洪暴雨研究" 、"登陆台风研究"等课题。主要从事中小尺度天气动力学、数值模拟和数值预报方面的研究。 代表性著作有:
